Outdoor Education

Solo Survival
During our fall campout students learn shelter-building and other survival skills. Then they have the opportunity to put their new skills into practice by building and sleeping in their own shelter overnight, while only having available the bare essentials of warm clothes, drinking  water, a camping knife, a sleeping bag, and a Bible. The purpose of this activity is to help students understand what they would need to do to survive if they were stranded overnight in the wilderness. It also gives them an opportunity to spend time alone with God in nature.

Backpacking
During our spring backpacking trip into the mountains, the students are in charge; they develop teamwork and leadership skills as they work together towards the common goal of reaching their backpacking destination, while also learning about the alpine environment around them.

Rafting
Fall and spring bring several one-day and multi-day rafting trips on the Colorado and Dolores Rivers. These trips are appropriate for beginners, with moderate class 3 white-water rapids, where the waves are big enough to be fun and small enough to be safe.

Skiing
We offer two ski trips during the winter months. Beginning skiers have the opportunity to participate in a group ski lesson.

Music Education

Voice and Bell Choirs
Our voice and bell choirs helps students to develop a basic understanding of music theory and gives them an opportunity to minister to the local community through church programs and a yearly Christmas concert.

Private Lessons
Our music teacher offers private lessons in piano, clarinet, accordian, guitar, and music theory. There is an additional fee for this service.

Agriculture Education

Gardening Class
In the Market Gardening class, students take part part in the planting, harvesting, and processing of produce for selling at our local market in Moab. This gives them the experience they would need to be an asset at any small produce farm.

Adventist Agricultural Conference
Each year our entire student body attends the annual agriculture conference put on by the Adventist Agricultural Association (AdAgrA). The students choose from seminars which cover a variety of topics relating to home and market gardening. In addition, they have many opportunities to volunteer at the conference, including lending a hand at our DayStar booth and serving lunch and supper at our own Thom’s Carrot Hot Dog Stand.
